How to Brew Common Myrtle

Resinous and eucalyptus-like with a slightly peppery, piney note.

Catalogued origin is the Mediterranean, where it grows wild in coastal scrubland (maquis).

Here is how to brew Common Myrtle for a clean, full-flavoured cup. One ingredient. Nothing added.

How to Brew Common Myrtle

  1. Measure 2g of Common Myrtle into your cup or teapot per 250 ml of water.
  2. Heat fresh, filtered water to 100 C.
  3. Pour the water over the Common Myrtle and infuse for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Strain and serve hot.

Tips

  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; keep tightly sealed after opening.
  • In the kitchen: In Sardinian and Corsican cooking, the small glossy leaves are used to wrap and flavour roasted meats; the berries are distilled into the traditional Sardinian liqueur mirto.
